~ ♦ » ■. KAPONGA v. AUROA. A hard-fought game of soccer was played between Kaponga and Auroa at Auroa. on Thursday, and resulted in a nin for Kaponga by 3 goals to 'l. Auroa. won the toss, playing in thb nrst spell against the wind, which was Pretty strong and blowing down the field. The game was very fast, and the ball was hunted up and down the field m great style. - Kaponga had hard luck in registering only one goal in- the first spell, although, repeated attempts to goal were, made, but the ball either went too high, or waA blown o;>t. The whistle sounded at half-time with the score Kaponga 1, Auroa 0. On resuming, Auroa fought very'hard to equalise things, and were successful after about ten minutes hard going. Auroa had several shots, but were unable to improve their score. Kaponga. now began to show their . form, and through some very pretty foot and head work shot another goal. With about ten minutes to go, the visitors notched another fine go'iil. Auroa attacked vigorously, but their condition was against them, and the game ended with the scores Kaponga 3, Auroa 1. Freakley (2) and T. Campbell (1) scored for Kaponga, and Plant scored for Auroa. Mr Broomfield was referee. MATCH AT MANAIA. The Julian Cup fixture between Manaia had most of the play throughout Domain yesterday, Manaia -winning bv a narrow margin of 1 goal to nil. Manana had most fo the play throughout the game, lp.it through lacking in forwards they missed some good chances. A penalty for handling was given against Eltham, hut Manaia failed with the kick. Manaia. halves i and backs played well, and their goalkeeper was there when wanted, as he mostly is. Reg. Muggeridge was the best in the forward line, W. McCook being in his wrong place in the forwards, hut there is better to come from this plaver.
