A SENSATIONAL CASE. CLAIM BY SCHOOLMISTRESS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GISBORNE, June 25. . A sensational case is iioav occupying the attention of Sir John Salmond and »■ common jury in the Supreme Court. A schoolmistress, at Waikohu (Ivy Bell Carr) is suing Lionel Clare, coal and sfißffimg-merchant, for £SOOO damages. The statement of the claim alleges Jffiat Clare tricked the plaintiff into vjsiting his home, gave her a drink which rendered her unconscious, and had sexual intercourse with her, as a result of Avhieh her health aars seriously affected, as she Avas at the time in a Aveak state, having recently been in hospital. Plaintiff also alleges that her career has been ruined ; that she has suffered great agony of mind by reason of the shame attached to the assault ; and had felt compelled to separate herself from her husband. Plaintiff, Avas under cross-examination when the Court adojurned.
