Bayley and Willard, the Australian Olympic tennis players, provided a sensation at Wimbledon in the matches against'the two leading British players. Wimbledon has not seen finer tennis than that by Lacoste in defeating Manuel Alonso, 2-6, 6-2, 13-15, 6-3, 6-1. Lacoste was versatile and tireless, and made brilliant passing shots. Alonso showed a magnificent forehand drive, and his net-work and volleying were splendid, hut he tired after the third set.
