The Minister in charge of the soldiers’ settlement scheme has prepared a statement showing that the various States have settled a total of 33,238 returned soldiers at a cost of £58,088,000. The average individual outlay ranges from £745 in Queensland to £2699 in South Australia, In New South Wales the cost is £2411, and in Victoria £1829. SUNDAY GAMES INCREASING. SYDNEY, June 24. The steady increase in Sunday games is viewed with growing alarm by Sabbatarian. Amongst the protests' is one from the Christian Temperance Union of Gleninnis, which has asked the Mayor to extend the prohibition on games during church hours to the whole' day. The Church Federation at Brisbane asked the Government to refuse to sanction, the City Council’s proposal to repeal the by-law against Sunday games.
