AUROA.
SOCIAL. EVENING. A very pleasant evening was spent by members and friends of the Auroa Soccer Club a.t the hall on Friday last, the occasion being a farewell social to five members of the club who are leaving the district. There was a very fair gathering of about 60 present, which was considered good considering the weather conditions and the counterattraction,?. At 8 o’clock dancing commenced and continued until 9 p.m.. when Mr. W. Bradford (president of the club) spoke, a. few words on behalf of the members who were leaving the district, and referred to the assistance Messrs. Holland, Smart, A. White, R. Houghton and T. Creery had been to the club. Mr. Holland was a valued member who had done what he could for the club in the time at his disposal. He had also acted as club captain. Mr. Smart also was a valued member, as well as being one of the club’s bestplayers. He also represented Taranaki against Wanganui recently, and fully justified bis inclusion in the team Tt is to be hoped that Mr. Smart will bo available to stand the test ! in the trials in connection with the visit of the Chinese Soccer team to Taranaki m August, and that at the end of the trials he will justifv his inclusion in tlrt Taranaki team. Mr. Smart would bv available for a few club fixtures vet. The other three members of the club had done yeoman service for the Auroa B team, and had done their utmost to assist the club in any functions whether on or off the field, and the club was sorry to lose them. Mr. H. Buxton endorsed the remarks of the president-, and said that Auroa people were very enthusiastic as rewards snort or anything that was in the interests of the district. They had all sorts of sport- with the exception of racing. He also was very interested m the doings of the Auroa Soccer Club and complimented the club on the vorv strong hold soccer had in the districtand the able support accorded it bv tlm residents. He also felt the loss the oUrb must sustain by the departure of these members.
i n thanks on behalf ot himself and the other departing members, said lie regretted having to sever his connection with the c uh, to which he had' become very at~ Jw e ?i a: \ resjK ' ct(jd - considered that the Auroa footballers were a fine body of men Not only did he regret leaving the club, but he regretted leaving ie district, for lie and his familv had spent many pleasant evenings at. different functions at- Auroa, and thev had begun to know the peonle. ]'„ conclusion, he wished the club overv success, and said that at some future occasion lie and his lamilv might be able to do somethin?; for the club .and the district.
• During the evening items were rendered by Mrs Williums (song), Miss Heal and Mrs Williams (a duet), and iVlrs McCook a song (encored). „ . Bef . ore „ dispersing, member* and friends of the club were entertained at supper, which was heartily enjoyed by all. The best thanks of the' club aie due to those ladies who assisted at the piano in connection with the dances, also to the ladies and gentlemen who assisted at the supper table. Mr J. Hartley made a very able M.C. in keeping the ball rolling. ' Thus ended a very enjoyable social evening.
