TERRITORIALS UNDER CANVAS

OYER 300 MEN AT WAYERLEY. About 330 territorials of Headquarters A, B and C Squadrons of the Second Mounted Rifles went into camp at Waver ley to-day. Lieut.-Colonel D. Mumo, of Wanganui, was in charge, hut Hawera was represented by Captain D. E. Bremner, chief instructor, Lieutenant Steele, adjutant, and the Rev. Bush-King. The camp, which is being field on the racecourse grounds \vill not break up until next Aloudav! but the men will receive pay for the days they are in training at the rate of Ts per day, with increasingly greater i enumeration for the officers. No horses are being taken into camp this time, but nevertheless the hours of instruction will be fully occupied, it being confidently expected that when Colonel W hit© and Colonel Commandant lowjes, or Headquarters, Palmerston North; visit- the camp the men will make a. good showing.
