The defeat of the preference resolutions in the British Parliament has caused great disappointment, and it is almost certain to be seized on by the new Government as a pretext for abolishing British preference in the South African Union. Such preference has always been opposed by Mr. Hertzog’s party, and now that the Hertzog Government is a certainty, the whole press evpress congratulations and express the hope that all parties will help the new Government. —Reuter.
