The committee decided to make the following requests to the Railway Department : (a) That access by road not less than one chain vide be given to the new wharves, for public vehicular and other traffic, clear of the railway reserve. (b) That all reclamation work be done above high water mark and made to allow for good road approach between the railway reserve and high water mark. The several points were fully discussed, and a most satisfactory agreement was come to in regard to the general principles involved in our requests. The general manager agreed to give public access, as asked for to the wharves, and to conform to the desires of the hoard in making reclamations on the Ngamotu beach. He also intimated his willingness, should the board at some future date so desire—instead of doing their work themselves —to enter'into arrangements with the board for operating the sheds when erected on the wharves, giving delivery and receiving goods either into the rail, way trucks, to be railed to their destination, or to private vehicles at the discretion of the eonsigneesOn June 9 Mr. Jones, chief engineer, and Mr. Harris, general superintendent of transport (Mr. MeYilly was unable to attend owing to pressure of business), visited New Plymouth and went mere fully and definitely into details. A few minor alterations were suggested, as shown on the second plan herewith. The general details were settled satisfactorily, and your committee feel certain that the outcome of our negotiations will he an effective solution of problems which for a long time have caused much concern to the hoard.— Herald.
