MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RETURNED SOLDIERS’ BALL. As anticipated, the returned Soldiers’ annual ball held in the Manaia Town Hall on Wednesday night was a huge success, visitors being present from all parts of Taranaki and as far south as Foxton. , The hall was taxed to its utmost. The decorations were most elaborate and spectacular. The entrance of the hall was all done- up with greenery and ferns, which at once took the eye of all. The body of the hall looked lovely with streamers of various colours extending from every point of vantage, intermixed with dozens of coloured lights all around the walls of the hall. Extending front the ceiling in the centre was a huge biplane and bombing plane, surrounded by five monoplanes, which looked the real article itself. The work of these aeroplanes reflected great credit on the artists who had made them. The stage was a properly formed and built dug-out or bivvy, exactly the same as the soldiers had in France, with sentries posted, and was much admired by all present. The decorations were well worth seeing, and the hall at intervals during the evening in various dances, when different coloured lighting effects were produced, looked like a fairyland. The isiipper-room. was also- most artistically decorated; also the tables, which reflected much credit on Mrs. B. Badland, Miss M. Franklin and Miss L. Jones.
