LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP OPENS. PLAY AT NEW PLYMOUTH. The Taranaki ladies’ championship tournament opened op the New Plymouth. Club’s links at Waiwakaiho yesterday. Boisterous weather prevailed throughout the day,' and the heavy rains of the previous evening had rendered the greens and course somewhat sodden, this being particularly disappointing considering the immense amount of attention given to the links prior to the touirnament. Miss Roberts (Patea) 121 —24 —97. , Of these the first eight qualified for the championship round in the afternoon, which resulted as follows: Miss L. Quin won from Miss Gibson 4 up and 3. . Airs Collinson won from Miss Dell 5 up and 4. Miss Brewster won from Mrs Quilliam 6 up and 4. Mrs Nicholson won from Mrs Grace 1 up. In the bogie handicap yesterday Miss Rollo, who finished up 3 down, was the winner, while Mrs McDiarmid was runner-up with 5 down.
