LOSS OF STEAMER. PITIFUL SCENES. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT COPENHAGEN, June 18. The collision was accompanied by heart-rendering scenes. Both steamers were full of passengers, who were mostly asleep. The Kongherald’s passengers ;rushed on deck, but were quietened when it was found that the bows had only been dented. The Aakonjarl is doomed. The first boat lowered capsized, throwing the passengers into the water. Others jumped overboard, but most were lowered successfully. The captain leapt from the bridge, but was saved just the steamer sank. Everything happened in a few minutes.
