NORMANBY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOWN BOARD. The ordinary meeting of the board was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Commissioners Coad, Hurliman, Peach, MeEwen and Bennett. A letter was received from the Minister of Justice acknowledging receiptof the town clerk’s letter drawing attention to the necessity for a new police station at Normanby, and stating that the department recognise the present building is nearing the end of its usefulness and the question for making provision for a new station at Normanby had been noted for consideration. In the meantime the present building will be painted and urgent repairs effected to keep it habitable. Mr. O. J. Hawken, M.P., wrote in connection with the same matter, in which he stated that he had communicated with the Minister for Justice regarding ia new police station for Normanby. A letter was received from a ratepayer complaining that a resident Avas taking advantage of the fact that there is no ranger and is leaving his cows on the road at night. Five applications were recerted for the position of foreman, ranger and sexton to the board.—Mr. S. P. Franklyn was appointed to the position. Mr. W. Hair applied for a renewal of his slaughter license, which was granted* Two tenders were received for the right to shoAV moving pictures in the ToAvn Hall, and it was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the chairman and clerk to deal with. 'The following rates were struck for the ensuing year, viz., 2d county rate and 2d in the £ town district rate Tenders are to be called for the lease of Waihi Reseiwe for a period of 10 years. A vote of sympathy was passed with Airs. J,.Gillespie (wife of the late foreman). The motion Avas carried in silence, members standing. Accounts to the amount of £lO5 15s 8d were passed for payment, and the meeting.—Adjourned.
