MEETING OF STRATFORD SOCIETY

„ The regular monthly meeting of the Executive Committee was held on Wednesday last, there being present: Messrs J. -W. Iteem (chairman;, J. JJ. itichards, E. lUarfeli, P. Morresey, W. H. Were, and M. T. Phillips; Mr ltichaids reported that he personally interviewed the Minister ot Agriculture, who promised that he would furnish a definite report on or before July 1 re continuance of annual subsidy. In connection with disposal of suipius stock, Mr Phillips reported one cow had been sold, but the otock Committee was unable to do anything witn the young stock, as no satisfactory offers were available. The Farm Committee submitted proposals m connection with top-dressing. This matter was lully discussed, anti it was resolved that fields 1,3, 12 and 13 be top-dressed with 3ewt per acre, plus -c-wt ot haunt on part or field 12, also 3cwt per acre (slag) on part of field 4, which was dressed with 3cwt per acre last year, a strip, across field 12 to be top-ciressed with* kainit at- the rate of 2cwt per acre. The manager reports (period May 14 to June li) that the herd was dried off during May, with the exception of three empty heifers and three that are coming in late and are still milking. 'Two fresh cows have come in. making a total of eight in milk at the present time. The quantity of milk ior the month was 19,332 lbs, testing first period 5., second period 3.4, third period 3.7. The stock were turned on the swedes on May 11, and are; looking well. Mangolds have been lifted and left lying in rows on the paddock. Tne crops were weighed by Mr Glasson on May 20, and the results of weighing have been furnished. The balance of soft turnip ground bas been drilled with oats. In accordance with the instructions of the committee, two extra pig houses have been erected. Five small Tam worth sows were sold at £~ 2s each. I'helds 4 and 5 have been chain harrowed. The crossing over the creek in field 0 along the roadway is in a bad condition and cattle refuse to cross it at the present time. In my opinion two cows in the herd should be sold. The matter of selling two cows, which are still butter-fat producers, was left in the hands of Mr Phillips, and the report was duly adooted. In connection with the Farm School, Mr runups reported that the "Women’s Chiistian Temperance Union had kindly undei taken to provide refreshments. The provision of refreshments should be greatly appreciated by those attending the Farm School. • Accounts amounting to £l9 13s 7cl were passed for payment.
