LONDON, June 16. bixty thousand witnessed an accident in the cowboy contests on Saturday, and when a steer broke its leg they immediately commenced hooting and hissing. Directly the cowboys realised the position a pistol shot rang out, and the steer dropped dead. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is applying for summonses U). connection with the matter, and telegraphed to the Premier protesting against the continuance of the performances. ,Mr Cochran has announced that steer roping will be discontinued pubbut will be continued privately till the championship is settled in order to keep faith with the cowboys.—Aus.N.Z.
