A carpenter named Robert Corstorphine, aged 40, while engaged in fitting a new lift at the premises of Messrs John Court, Ltd., in Queen Street, was struck by a moving carriage and killed instantly. Apparently he was bending over observing the extent of clearance and was struck on the chin. He leaves a widow and two children. DROWNED IN BARREL.

DUNEDIN, June 16. A married woman named Sarah Gilchrist Rankin, aged 44 years, was drowned in a barrel at her home at Green Island on Saturday morning. An inquest was held, which showed that deceased had been depressed recently. A verdict of death cine to drowning was returned, the cause being unknown. DEATH OF SCHOOLBOY. DUNEDIN, June 16. Arthur Fitzwilliam, aged 65 years, a married man with three children, died suddenly to-day apparently from a seizure. Deceased was a foreman builder and was on his way out to the building of a residence up the Waimata River. He crossed the river on a horse, but did not put in an appearance on the .job, and on a search being made he was found dead.
