BOXING PROHIBITED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. t VIENNA, June 15. The Austrian police have prohibited boxing matches, alleging that they conduce to brutalisation, cause waste of money and keep young men from work.
SWALLOWED A CHEQUE, SYDNEY, June 16. During the busy banking hours on Saturday a man presented a cheque at a Sydney bank. A question was raised regarding the signature, whereupon the man •.snatched the cheque from the banker’s hand, rolled it into a ball and swallowed it. The police were summoned and a strong emetic was administered to the man, who has been detained. MONUMENT TO ZOLA. PARIS, June 16. A monument to the memory -of M. Zola, the French author, was unveiled in the presence, of the Premier. (M.. Herriotj and all the members of Cabinet. Many thousands were present, and speakers paid a tribute to the work of M. Zola, on behalf of Colonel Dreyfus, who figured in the famous espionage case. There were other demonstrations at' the Pantheon, where M. Zola is buried.
