■—» (From Our Own Correspondent.) RETURNED SOLDIERS’. BALL. The committee of the Manaia and district returned soldiers’ ball, which is to he held in the Town Hall on AYednesday night, have every detail complete. There has been a working bee attending to the decorations for the last fortnight. The decorations will he most elaborate, and something that has never been seen before in the Manaia Town Hall. A r isitors are expected from all parts of Taranaki. On Thursday night there is to be a. children’s fancy dress ball, given by the returned soldiers. Great preparations are being made for this event. EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE.
/I be euchre party and dance in aid of Manaia Convent CarnivaL town queen, held in the Town Hall on Friday night, was a huge: success. Over 80 people sat down to euchre, and a large number who were not playing commenced the evening dancing with first-class music provided by the Auroa Orchestra, consisting of " Messrs 'T. Riley (cornet), A. Riley (violin), g! turner (piano), and AA\ Turner (violin). The music was very much appreciated by all present. Messrs L. Landers andA. Bailey filled the position of M.C.’s. A first-class floor was provided. Airs D. Rothery won the ladies’ prize for euchre and Air Wallace the men’s. Air J. Horton the booby prize for the men and Airs H. Sutton the ladies. During the evening Airs Areklon’s guessing competition was got off. and Air T. Miller was successful, being the closest to the right number of yards of cotton in the bottle. The correct number of yards was 61yds 2ft 9in. Air T. Aiiller 63yds, H. Sutton 60yds. D. Allan 63vds Ift Gin. Supper was provbkd by the ladies’ committee. There was a. large attendance of ladies at the meeting called on Friday tb<? farewell to Air and Airs T. AfcI hillips and family. Airs J. A. .Hansen occupied the chair. A good deaf of detail business in connection with the isMOwoJl wns gone through, and stronor committees set up. The ladies were very enthusiastic, and the meeting was a record one. AriNIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. A match between Hawera and Alanaia Aliniature Rifle Clubs was held at the opening of the Alanaia miniature rifle range, and some very good shooting was witnessed by the large crowd present. The match resulted in a wia. for Hawera by 48 points. The following are the scores:
