DISTRICT CONVENTION. _Oli June 10 about sixty delegates and friends assembled at the Trinity Methodist Church school room, Wanganui, for the opening of the _ Women’s Christian Temperance Union Convention. Mrs. Goody, president of the Wanganui Central Union, presided, and representatives of other temperance organisations were present. A number of musical and elocutionary items were rendered. The Rev. Mr. Verco spoke on behalf of the Ministers’ Association and Commander Middlemiss for the Salvation Army. Mr,. Liffiton welcomed the delegates on behalf of the New Zealand Alliance. Mr. Leo Wilson, the Sons or Temperance, in his remarks stressed the point that they did not want New Zealand to. become like the Old Country so far as the liquor evil was concerned. Mr. Clarke, on behalf of the Rechabites, contributed to the welcome, and expressed recognition of the splendid work done by the W.C.T.U. Mr. Malton Murray, assistant secretavy pf the New Zealand Alliance, also spoke. Mrs Duxfield, district president, responded to the representatives’ lemarks. The singing of the doxology brought the meeting to a Hose. 0? June 11 Mrs. Brady, of the Methodist Church, opened the Convention session with devotions. Mrs Duxfield, in her address, said that they were there to report work done during the year for the abolition of the liquor traffic, and to devise wavs and means for doing more efficient work. A telegram was received from Mrs. Peryman, who was unable to be present. A Paper™ “Good'Citizenship” was read. The' afternoon session was opened by ™ ™ Begg (Presbyterian Church). Mr. Murray gave a short address. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. Duxfield; corresponding secretary, Mrs. X. Jones; recording secretary, Mrs. Jamieson; treasurer Mrs Hawken; vice-president, Mrs’ Goody. The invitation for the next Convention to be held at Wait.ara was accepted. The Convention closed with the singing of the doxology. In the evening at Wanganui East Mr. Malton Murray gave an address on corporate control.
