ELTHAM COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. 'The monthly meeting of the Eltham County Council was held in the Council Chambers at Eltham on Saturday, when there were present: Crs. C. J. Belcher (chair), R. J. Knuckey,. A. McWilliani, A. V. Messana, M. W. Barker, A. Campbell, W. E. Carter, C. E. McGuinness and E. J. Gifford. Mr. Clements, representing the Eltham Borough Council, waited on the meeting with a request that the council pay half the cost of the eleven lights round the borough boundary. The council, agreed to meet the Borough Council in the matter and to pay the half share, amounting to about £2O. The district engineer wrote asking for an estimate, of the cost to complete the repairing of one mile of the Moeawatea bridge road from the Rawhitiroad Road. When he had obtained the necessary authority he would like the council to expend same.—The letter was received and handed to tlie engineer. !t was decided to hold a special meeting on July 5 at 10 a.m. to fix the rates for the coming year, and.it was further decided that all expenditure in the ridings be reduced to meet the amount of the rates struck. It was decided that applications for public money be made for the following works:—Rawhitiroa. Road £ISOO, Tirimoana Road £ISOO, Mangawhero bridge Eltham Road £IOOO, Te Roti Road £SOO, Tawhiti Track £IOO, bridge at Omona £3OO, Rotokare Road £2oo, three boundary bridges on Slceet Road £SOO each. OVERSEER’S REPORT. The county overseer, Mr. Frank Muggeridge, reported as follows: South. Riding.—Water-tables and culverts were attended to on all roads in this riding. A side track was metalled on the Mountain Road. Mangatoki Riding.—'Waiter-tables aiid culverts were attended to on the Lower Hastings Upper Duthie and Lower Hunter Roads. Metal patching was done on the Stuart and Efltham Roads. Tar patching was completed on the Eltham Road. Omona Riding.—During the month water-tables and culverts were attended to on the Rawhitiroa, Mataiwhetu, Waitiri and Karewa Roads. Slips were also cleared on these roads Metal patching was done on the Rawhitiroa Road. The profiling was removed from the retaining wall at Matemateaonga. The filling will be started as soon as possible. Kaponga Riding.—Maintenance metal has been placed on nearly all roads in this ridmg. Water-tabling and patching was done on the Upper Auroa, Lower Mangawhero, Palmer and Opunakebtratford Roads. Drains were cleaned out on the Auroa,, Mangawhero and Upunake-Stratford Roads. Eltham Riding.—Metal patching was done on the Hu, Anderson and Mangawhero Koads. Slips were cleared off the Mangamingi ridge, Water-tables were attended to on the Tirlmoana, Rawhitii’°a and Maata Roads. About 40 yards of shell rock was hand-broken by the riding surfacemen. General —I would suggest that the portable crushing plant be sent out to the Riverlea toll-gate and crush sufficient blinding material to complete, the tar-sealing in the Kaponga riding estimates. During the month the chip crusher was placed on the new foundation block, a new concrete block was put in to carry the intermediate driving ,shaft and the concrete foundations were put in for the new metal bins. The timber required to build the bins has been ordered The rotary screen ordered from Collett and Son has been delivered. About 100 yards of boulder stone was crushed at Te Roti, the P-fr jr n f dnven T lite satisfactorily jL l ie tractor.
