VOLAIRE—ROBINSON FIGHT. (by telegraph—press association.} NAPIER, June 15. In a professional boxing contest, last night Eugene Volaire gained the verdict over Lin Robinson, who retired at the close of the eighth round on account of a cut over the right eye. Robinson was leading by one on the referee’s points. Volaire has offered to halve the purse. AUSTRALIAN CONTESTS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, June 15. At the Stadium, after an uninteresting contest,Billy Grim© defeated Digger Evans in live rounds, the latter’s seconds throwing in the towel after he had been floored six times. MELBOURNE, June 15. Bert McCarthy defeated Paul Demsky on points at the end of a twenty rounds contest. FIGHTS FOR CARPENTIER. NEW YORK, June 13. Georges Carepntier has been matched against Jimmy Slattery, of Buffalo, on August 4. It is r stipulated that Oarpentier shall fight no one else before that date except Gene Tunney. Billy Gibson (manager for Tunney) has announced tentative arrangements with Francais Descamps (Carpentier’s manager) for a fifteen round fight between Tunney and Carpentier in the middle of July in. an open-air stadium at New York. The formal articles will be signed on Monday.
