The funeral of the late George Easton, which took place to-day, was followed by a large number of oersonal friends and bv many residents who gathered to pay ,a tribute of respect to a highlv■esteemed citizen. Mr Easton having been a South African Mar veteran, a no’f.r .P ar kv was present under U.S.M. Mahoney, while Lieutenant nteele was also present. A Tirass band under Mr Ollerenshaw jilayed the Dead March and other appropriate selections as the cortege moved from his late residence to the -.cemetery. Rev. H. W. Monoghan officiated at the and at the conclusion of the service the firing party fired three volleys blank cartridge and KM. Mahoney piayed the Last Post as a last tribute to* the memory of a veteran. The pall-bearers were Messrs Robb, Strauee, Dakin Trim, Gilbert ail'd Smith.
