WAIMATE WEST COUNTY COUNCIL.
AIONTHLY AIEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Waimnte Mest County Council was held on Thursday. Present: Messrs E. Long (chair), J. F. Stevenson, J. S. AlcKay, F. Gamlin. A letter, was received from Air R. Old re drain in front of his property.— The matter was left in the hands of Cr Stevenson to deal with. The Public Works Department wrote re subsidy for Skeet road bridge, stating that they will allow £1 for 30s expended by the council, with a limit of £SOO from the department.—The matter of securing a further loan for this work was left in the hands of the chairman to interview the superintendent of Public Works.
The Minister of Public Works wrote re subsidies for bridges.—The matter was left in the hands of the chairman, engineer and clerk of council to go into and deal with. L. C. Harrison, Palmer road, Kaponga, wrote complaining of the very bad state of the lower part of Palmer road, and asking the council for their assistance to put the road in decent repair.—As this is a boundary road, the matter was left in the hands of the chairman and Cr McKay to interview the Hawera Council, with the object of doing something in the matter. An application for,a slaughterhouse license was received from Alessrs J. A. Pettigrew (Otakeho) and James JBailey (Alania). —Granted, subjected to Inspector of Stock Department. The State Advances Office wrote re Rama road drainage works loan of £IOOO, stating that the council’s application in common with all others was being dealt with in the order of its receipt in the office with as little delay as possible and when the proceedings have been examined and the final application considered by the members of the board the council would be duly advised.—Received. Mr C. Hunger, secretary to Library Committee, applied for the annual subsidy for the Alanaia Public Library.— The usual subsidy of \£s 5s ‘was granted.
The Public Works Department, Stratford, wi’ote re main highways matters dealing with concise reports from councils each month re different works carried out by the county.—Received. ’ Application was received from Joll’s Dairy Company asking permission to lay a water pipe along the'side of the road for carrying the water away from the factory.—Permission was granted during the council’s pleasure. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote notifying the election of Mr E. Long as chairman of the AVaimate West County Council. The Kaponga Town Board, replying to letter sent by Waimate West County Council re supply of electric power by Kaponga Board within a portion of Waimate West County Council area, stated that they could not grant the council’s request in that direction. The engineer’s report stated: We have now finished tar patching, the whole of the asphalt road having been repaired. Owing to the wet w T eather Air Parker has not been able to do much with his Normanby road contract. He has now delivered' 700 yards of crushed metal. I have had this rolled and blinded. It is my intention, to leave this road now until the spring. I will now have the crusher moved up on to the Oeo road ready to make a start crushing at that end of the county. We have now got the whole of the foundations in for the Normanby road culvert and portions of the walls finished. T put two of the bridge hands on erecting the shed at the back of the county office, which is now finished. I had a 12-inch pipe culvert put in across- the Omuturangi road near the Alain South road. Maintenance work has been carried out oil the Alain South, Inaha, Normanby, Glenn, Sheet and Oeo roads.
It was moved hv Cr Stevenson, and seconded by the chairman, that the clerk (Mr V. H. Hobday) he heartily congratulated for the very satisfactory way the rates have come in and the veiy able manner in which he carries out his duties as clerk to the Waimate V\ est County Council.—Other councillors endorsed the remarks of the prevous speakers.—Mr Hobday suitably thanked the councillors for their appreciation of his services.
Accounts passed for payment amounted to £BB7 3s 4d.
