He asked buyers to bid promptly, in view of the number to be offered.
Mr C. E. Robertson said these national sales gave a chance for the small breeder. The big breeder could have annual sales, hut the small man was just as important as the large. In England, Scotland and America they combined a show wdth the sale, and the practice was to have three classes. The buyers had the judge’s verdict to go by, but in this respect it was only his own individual opinion. What was required was type combined with maximum production. He hoped all would bid quickly and promptly. The sale then commenced, and continued all the afternoon.
Mr H. Broad opened the sale on behalf of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Mr C. G. Trotter sold for the Farmers’ Co-op. Society. In the course of his preliminary remarks Mr Robertson announced that Mr John Hale’s Lady Superior had on June 8 concluded her 365 days’ milking, twice a day, and had made the fine figures of 9971 b fat, a world’s record for twice a day milking.
