Painleve’s supporters had reckoned, that he would obtain practically unanimous endorsement, and the voting means a severe blow to his hopes, as M. Doumergue can count on the support of the moderate elements in both Chambers, which were not represented at the meeting. M. Doumergue is therefore favourite in the race for the Presidency.•—Reuter.
MEETING OF LEFT PARTIES. CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENCY. Received June 13, 11.25 a.m. PARIS, June 12. . A meeting of the Left parties of both chambers, held to select a candidate for to-morrow’s election of the President of the Republic, resulted in M. Painleve obtaining 306 votes and M. Doumerque 149.
