RAYMOND UNABLE TO PLAY. LONDON, June 12. In the Davis Cup match South Africa had bad luck, being unable to play Raymond as intended owing to an injury to his ankle. Richardson played pluckily, but was no match for Wheatley. The third set was the best, Richardson improving in close net play and leading by 3—l. Wheatley, fighting grimly, won Richardson’s service, and the latter weakening. Wheatley made it 4 all. Then by superb volleying Wheatley took the next four games and the match. Gilbert, except in the opening set, proved much cleverer than Spence, and won easily. TOURNAMENT IN ENGLAND. LONDON, June 12. At the Kent lawn tennis championships Mishu beat T. E. Clark, the New Zealander 6—3, 6—4.
