lor Sidney by the Malieno is leaving Hawera by the mail train on Tuesday next. The death of Mr Yeend King, the painter, aged 69, is announced in a London cable. He made a specialty of landscape paipting and had exhibited at the Royal Academy since 1876. At the annual meeting of the Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, a. vote of condolence was passed with Mr H. E. B. Matson, official demonstrator, in the death of his wife, which, said the president, occurred since last annual meeting. All present stood in silence out of memory of the late Mrs Watson. Mr and Mrs James Boddie, of Auckland, celebrated their golden wedding on Tuesday. They were married in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on J-uue 10, 1874, and arrived at New Plymouth 38 years ago in the Wairarapa, which was subsequently wrecked on the Barrier For 20 years Mr'- and Mrs Boddie resided in the Taraanki district, whence they went to Te Kuici in 1905. A resolution that a letter of appreciation be sent to Miss Mills in view of the long term of efficient- service she has rendered under the Board was passed at the meeting of the Taranaki Education Board on Wednesday. Miss Mills has iust resigned from her position as head teacher at Ngaere school, where she has been teaching for 27 years.
Mr L. G. Moss, who has been local manager of Messrs Johnston and Co., Ltd., since the transfer of Mr Nancarrow, has resigned his position in order to join his father in business in Wellington. We recently published particulars of the presentations made to Mr Moss, sen)*., on the eve of his embarking in business on his own account. Mr L. G. Moss will leave Hawera in about three weeks’ time.
