Rifle Shooting.
JAMES, OF NAPIER. A GOOD RECORD. Sergeant F. H. James, the Napier rifle shot who did so well at the recently concluded Sydney and Melbourne meetings, returned by the Warrimoo on Wednesday, and was welcomed home by a number of local marksmen. In Sydney, Sergeant James missed winning the Jubilee Meeting Championship by a single point, and he won the biggest prize of the Melbourne meeting, the Syme aggregate, worth £IOO, and a gold medal valued at £lO 10s. His cash winnings at Sydney (says the " Post" amounted to £l3 and a badge, while at Melbourne he drew £123, other prizes being a " King's thirty" badge and a ioguinea B.S.A. rifle in the grand aggregate. The Napier shot, who beat all previous riecords for New Zealanders in Australia, scored 28 bull's eyes out of 90 shots fired. He affects a rack rifle with a Wesley Richards aperture ! sight.
