Presentation.

TO MR D. BANKS ON LEAVING HAWERA.

The "Hawera Star" reports that a pleasing function took place in the solicitors' room, of the Magistrate's Court last Tuesday morning, when the members of the Bar rolled up in strong force to make a presentation to Mr D. Brinks, late Clerk of the Hawera Court, and to bid him good bye. Mr Barton intimated his inability to attend through indisposition.

The oresentation, which took the form of a handsome travelling bag, was made by Mr Welsh, who referred Ito the good relations which had 'existed between Mr Banks and the I profession during the fifteen months he occupied the Clerkship of the Hawera Court. He spoke of the ' unfailing courtesy Mr Banks had | shown to the members of the Bar land of the c nscitnlious manner in j which- he had carried out the duties of his office. He believed Mr Banks had taken.a step in the right direction, and hoped he would meet with the same success as he had met with in the Department.

I Messrs Halliwell, McCarthy, Foy, ! Atkinson, Seilar, O'Dea and Tuclj hope also spoke of the regret felt by 1 the legal profession at Mr Banks' departure, at the same time wishing him every success for the future. Mr A. Turnbull, Stipendiary Magistrate, said he had to thank Mr Banks for his invaluable help during the past 15 months. He hoped Mr Banks would be as successful in the practice of the law as he had s been as an officer of the Department. Mr Banks feelingly responded. He thanked the profession for their gSft and for the kindly words of encouragement. Naturally he felt a little sad that day at leaving a service with which he had been connected for 15 years, and from wbich he had received every kindness; also at parting from members of the profession in Hawera, who had been more than personal friends to him. In the afternoon the police and court officials presented Mr Banks with a silver-mounted umbrella, suitably inscribed. Sergeant Bernard, on behalf of those present, thanked Mr Bauks for the assistance he had given them in their Court work, and wished him success in the profession he had adopted. Mrs Banks was also the recipient of a great many presents from the numerous friends she had made during her short residence in Hawera. A hearty send off was given to Mrs and. Mr Banks as the train carrying them to Hastings left the Hawera station.
