BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Public' Works Committee was held on Thursday evening, when it was derided io make the following recommendations to the Council: (l) That the consideration of Cr Mcl-eod's motion th::t tiu committee take into consideration what part of the borough will be benefited by t e proposed high pressure water supply and sewer extension, and that such part only be rated for the purpose, be deferred until the engineer's report is received. (2) 1 hat Mr Rochfort, ■ in conjunction with Mr J. Rogers be appointed to report on the condition of the main sewer and the proposed sewer extension. (3) That the resolution passed by the Council that a borough inspector of'nuisances, buildings and traffic be appointed, be rescinded. 14) I'liat the Council con- j sent to the plan showing a right of way laid off by Mr Mason on sn-tions ! 58 an'l sy, block I, Hastings, on the usual conditions. (si That permission Ik granted to the liawke's ii.iy Hockey Association to charge for the use of Cornwall Park on At gust 14th. I he Fire Committee afterwards iu Id a meeting, and decided to recommend as follows :■--(!) That an arc lanin with a pilot light be placed at the Fire Brigade station, on condition that the Fire Brigade undertake the lighting and extinguishing of it. (2) Tliat, after di-ctissing Mr Fowler's suggestion that some system of ringing the fire bell should be adopted so as to indicate the locality of a lire, the committee has no recommendation to i make. (3) That Cr. Mcl.eod's nn.-j tion that one or more chemical I fire-engines be purchase!, be de erred j until further information is obtained-
