COMING BOROUGH ELECTION.
Sik, -I was pleased !•« read in your issue of yesterday a letter signed by "Townsman,"referring to the coming Borough election, and commenting on the present condition of this town ant' the way its affairs have been managed or mismanaged in the past. The • letter indicates that some of the ratepayers are, at last, licgiuning to wake up to the fact that this town is not by any means in the state it should be considering its size and importance, but the statement made by "Townsman" that h< had searched your columns in vain for any hint that the management of oar public affairs was of the slightest interest to anyone in the place, shows that he has cvidenllv just wakened up from a long Rip Van Winkle sleep, and suddenly began to realise the true state of affairs, eitherwise he must know that lateiy there have appeared in \our columns' leading articles and letters l v om various correspondents showing that some persons have realised for some time back that it is absolu'ely necessary to make improvements in the town to bring it into line wi'ii other towns in the colony. "Townsman," it strikes me, would be the very man for the vacant position, and 1 think that lie should allow himself to be nominated for it. The statements made by your correspondent 'nave been so often referred to in your columns, and are so evident to any possessed of a minimum of common sense, that there is no need for me to offer any further comment on his letter. -I am. &c., Nkmd.
