Havelock North
Probably for the first time in the annals of Havelock, two tennis clubs and a cricket club, held practice matches ou Saturday. The Kia Kaha tennis club, who mustered out 80 members, had two courts going during the afternoon. The Class Club, with its court on the Presbyterian Manse grounds, had a good muster, and were not less energetic than those on the Rec. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the lady votaries of each club on their respective grounds. A match is to be played in about a fortnight between the two clubs, and should be an affair of interest to the villagers.
The Cricket Club mustered ei fair number, and played most energetically during tbo whole afternoon. The absolute inadequacy of the Domain for recreation purposes was at times most apparent, the cricket ball Hying across the tennis courts to the special discomfiture of the lady players. Volunteers have been putting in a large amount of practice on the To Mata range, preparing, I presume, for the coming Coleman Shield contest. The rain which fell during last Wednesday night was most welcome. Tanks were empty and gardens famishing. Farming operations have got a decided lift, and early crops shoidd be very good.
Stock all round the district are in the pink of condition under the favorable spring weather.
