Chnstchurcb, November 5 The weather is glorious, there is a large attendance and the course is very fast for the second day's races. Results : Middleton Hurdles, I,' mile—Evenlode 1, Levant 2, Comfort 3. Scratched —Wee McGregor. Both Eurus and Jack Pot fell. Won by a head after a great finish over the last half mile. Time, 3.18 2-sth. Divs, £5 6s and £2 Is 6d. Criterion Handicap—Muujeet 1, Intelligence 2, Master Alix, All started. Won by a neck, same distance between second and third, Appolodoris and Gazeley next. Time, 1.27 3-5. Divs £6 18s :d and £1 Epsom High-weight—Replete 1, Gold Seal 2, Stronghold 3. Master Delaval beat Delania in the City Handicap, paying £ll 8s aud£l lis respectively, l'he Hobson Handicap fell to Loch JJuhie, Lady Nell being second, the dividends being £3 8s and 13s. Pink 'Un captured the last event from Carl Rosa. Dividends, £7 Is and £1 7s. O !■ VICTORIAN RACES DERBY WON BY POSEIDON Received November 3, 7 p.m. Melbourne, November 3 The big meeting of the racing carnival opened to-day auspiciously, though the weather might have been finer. Ihe racing generally was good. The Derby produced a far better exhibition than was generally expected. Results :

Yict:ria Derby, 11 mile—Poseidon 1, Antonius 2. Booran 3. Betting—--7 to 2 on Poseidon, s to 1 Booran, 10 to 7 lolaire, 12 to 1 Antonius. lolaire jumped away from a splendid start. At the riverside, Ellis led by four lengths from lolaire. Approaching the bridge, Ellis led by two lengths from Booran, and Poseidon was next. At the far turn, lolaire fell away. The favorite moved up, and in the straight proper took the lead, and won by a length and a quarter. There were four lenghts between second and third. lolaire was last. Time, ihnin iCHsec. [Melbourne Stakes, 11 mile—Solution 1, Blue Spec 2, Noreen 8. Five others started- Betting—J) to 4 on Solution. The favorite was first away, and cantered into the straight from Dividend.
