[By Telegraph.J AUCKLAMJ March 16. The Star's Wellington correspondent has telegraphed that the Government have granted a pension of £2O per annum to the mother of Trooper John Aitken Connell, killed at New Zealand Hill.

King Mahuta arrived at Kawhia yesterday with a brass band and a large retinue. The Star correspondent states that the Maori King is likely to make Kawhia his permanent head-quarters. At the Supreme Court the Chief Justice gaye judgment in the ease of Chamber of Commerce v. B. Kent and others, re the dispute of the surplus funds of the Auckland exhibition. He decided to appoint four trustees—the President and Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Mayor of Auckland and the Chairman of the Harbor Board—to hold the money in trust till the Hall of Commerce bad been erected as proposed by the exhibition prospectus. He regretted he was unable to allow the money to go towards a technical school, that not being mentioned in thr prospectus.
WELLINGTON. March 16. A Municipal Association was formed last night to ensure progress on sound lines and resist the introduction of party politics into civic affairs.
The Premier has wired the Mayor of Wellington, suggesting that he communicate with the Mayors and County Chairmen of Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu, Wairarapa, and Hawke's Bay, asking them to consider the advisability of erecting arches in Wellington at the time of the Duke of Cornwall's visit representative of the industries of their districts.
GISBOIiNE. March 1(5. Mr Stewart, of Stewart and Fenn, electrical engineers, Auckland, returned from a visit toTe Eeinga waterfall, 80 miles from Gisborne. He considers there are no engineering difficulties in the way of harnessing it, and that there would be an abundant water supply supply for Gisborne, which would be able to compete, for all practical purposes, with any motor power at present in use. He will furnish a report with estimates in a month's time.
Tryphena Dyer, aged 21, died at the Otaki Hospital of gastro-enteritis, believed to be caused through eating brawn.
Four witnesses have been subpoenaed by the New Zealand Police Department to go to Sydney by the Moana, which leaves to-night, to give evidence in the Conway case, namely, C. M. Brooke (chemist, Christchurch), A. G. Winstone (one of the latter's employees), Denis Fogarty (hotel keeper, Christchurch), and Constable Treahoy (of Sumner).
