Notwithstanding tt ; last night's appearances was anything but promising, this morning broke bright and promising for the Autumn meeting of tbe Hawke's Bay Jockey Club. The course was in splendid condition, and as the fields were good everything contributed to a jzood day's sport. The trains from North and South were packed with visitors and tbe lawn, which had been cut and rolled for the occasion, presents quite a brilliant appearance. Mr Beilby's position as Clerk of the Scales was filled by Mr R. L. Williams, who performed his duties most satisfactorily. The City Band discoursed selections during the day, and the catering, as usual, was in the hands of Mr Roger Winsley, whose fame as a <-k. i is well-known throughout the province. Actlmn Handicap, of 120 sovs, second horse to reeeive 15 sovs from the stake. One mile. 184 E. J. Watt's St. Mark, 8.2 (Neale) 1 91 E. G. Richardson's Murmur, 7.9

This was a good race. Amouroax and Murmur got off with a sood start and kept this position to the willows where tbey were in a buncb. Here St. Mark forged ahead, followed by Oingo, who contested every inch oi the way to the post. Won by a half length. A good third. Dividend, £3 2s. Totalisator, JE635. Time, lmin 44secs.

First Handicap Hurdle Kale, of 100 sovs, second horse to receive 10 sovs from the stake. About 1J miles. 127 Mrs A. Ellinghani's Moifaa 11.6 (D. Watt) 1 214 S. E. W. Cooper's Troubadour, 10.11 (A. There was a good start, and a splendid race followed. Passing the post the first time round Waitio led, followed by Troubadour and Sylvanus, and at the willow 3 the race was a procession. At the railway bend Evening W T onder made the pace, but Moifaa forged ahead and won 'eather easily by three lengths. Dividend, £i lis. Totalisator, £617. Time, Smin 18 2-sth sees.

Hawke's Bay Cur Handicap, of 300 sovs second horse to receive 40 sovs, the third 10 sovs from the stake. One and a-half miles. 342 Hon. J. D. Ormond's Ideal, 8.6 (F. Davis) 1 199 G. G. Stead's Skobeloff, 8.8 (Hewitt) 2 149 F. Watson's Battleaxe, 8.10 (Gallagher) 3 n 284 E. J. Watt's Palaver, 7.11 ... )J 158 J. A. Harding's Materoa, 7.11 ... Kahuwai and Sirius were scratched. A good start, with Battleaxe in the lead. Coming the first time past the stand Battleaxe was first, with Ideal, Skobeloff, Palaver, and Materoa attending all close up. At the willows Skobeloff forged to second place until at the railway bend Materoa challenged Ideal for first place, the rest in a bunch. Ideal and Palaver came to the front on reaching the straight, when Skobeloff took second place and fought hard for th 9 lead, but lost by a neck. Palaver fourth, and Materoa last. Dividend, £2 19s. Jadoo jumped off from the start and held possession until the back of the course when Warwick tried for the front but was challenged by Autaia at the railway bend. From the entrance to the straight there was a very good race to the finish between Jadoo, Warwick, First Blood, The Hempie and DonovaD. Won by half a length. Dividend, £6 is, Totalisator, £669. The starter got them off together when Tigrisoma took first place and kept it to the railway bend, when Nonette gradually worked forward attended by Sunfish, who, however, fell back coming into the straight.
