Sad Fatality.

A WOMAN BURNED TO DEATH. (Per Press Association Wanganui, Dec. 12. A ami fatal fire occurred here at. 3 o'clock i;;i Saturday afternoon, when the St. John's "Working Men's Club was totally destroyed, as also was a large malt-house adjoining. Owing to the leakage in the water mains, supposed to have been caused by the recent earthquake, the brigade, who worked splendidly, had but a feeble supply of water at their command. It was utterly inadequate to cope with the flames. Mrs J. M'Gregor, wife of the custodian, who it was believed was safply out of the building, was subsequently found to have perished, and her charred remains were taken to the morgue. Both the club and the malt-house were owned by MiThatcher, who is at present in England. The total insurance is said to be £l4O0 —£GOO on each building in the South British and £2OO on the stock of the malt-house in the same office—but correct particulars are not yet available.
