St. John and Hayman Company.
Last evening the Princess Theatre held perhaps the largest audience ever seen in Hastings. The seats were inconveniently crowded and every available inch of standing room was occupied. Numbers would not' face the crush, and the management had to turn money from the doors. The piece billed was "My Partner," a drama which hardly gives sufficient scope to the company. Bartly Campbell's play is no doubt' powerful, but it is rather heavy for a holiday audience. However the vast crowd appreciated the work. The characters were well pourtrayed. Toni-ght " The Trail of the Serpent " will be staged. This is one of the most exciting dramas yet staged, and it has been said that so intense is the interest maintained throughout the piece that even in Melbourne the proverbial dog is neglected between the acts,_ the owner of the animal being afraid to Uiiss even the opening lines. There is some excellent fiomedy business between Mr Hayman and Miss Dora Mogtyn- The drama will be staged in a manner befitting the company, and another bumper house should result.
