Owing to the ravages of the rinderpest cattle are so scarce at Salisbury, capital of Mashonaland. that "salted" or pestproof oxen fetch £35 each. Antwerp, Sept. 27. The British residents here protest against their compulsory enrolment as members of the Civil Guards. Berlin, Sept. 27. The Cologne Gazette states that it is the intention of the German Government to gradually reconstruct the navy by the appropriation of sixty million marks yearly until 1005. Sydney, Sept. 27. A man named White has been found dead near Deepwater. Several slugs aud pieces of rock were embedded in the body, from which it is supposed that a bullet from his own ritie struck a rock and the splinters rebounded, killing him.
