MISCELLANEOUS PARS.

[By Gipsy Grand.] Galtee More has been scratched for the Czarwitch Stakes. Hopscotch has been scratched for ti:e Melbourne Cup. Marquis of Zetland and Chaos were scratched for the N.Z. Cup at 3 p.m. yesterday. Multiform will probably arrive here on Monday. Mr llarley has ridden seven winners sinco August Ist. Two Carbines, two Trentons, two Nordenfeldts, and two Lochiels scored at the recent Sydney races. Lottie has produced a colt foal to St Hippo, and Bangle a filly to St Leger. M. Hobbs has purchased Manawanui. Old Waterbury won the Hunters' Steeplechase at Wagga on the 4th inst. An tiller of £IOOO was refused for St Paul niter he won the Avondale Cup. Sanla died at Te Mahanga from influenza. This horse was nominated for the N.Z. Cup and his chance of success was well spoken of. By Lancf.p.. The Napier Park track was well patronised this morning some twenty or thirty horses being at work. I like the look of Forest Rose, Drury Lane, Miarua, Popgun, Strowan, and Moonraksr. I see the mare by Ingomar—Perfume has been christened Lavender. All right as far as Perfume is concerned, but Ingomar wf? a barbarian and the barb has no connection witli Lavender. My suggestion of Demi-monde would have just fitted both sides of the breeding. I should suggest the following names for the under-mentioned local horses : Bay gelding by Hiko- -Brown Duchess, Lord Gun or Brown Bess. Brown Bess being the name of the old fashioned muskets ; brown colt by Derringer—Nectarine : Six-shooter or Yankee Plum ; filly by Henchmam—Lome : Maid of Honor cr Lovelorn. My P. Grant has compelled the C.J.C. and the Official • Calendar to remove his name from the list of disqualified persons. Their high handed proceedings have therefore been attended by a correspondingly bumble back down. When the Calendar lias been cast in damages for defamation of character, clubs and calendars will adopt a more courteous method of dealing with " noxious persons." I hear that Miss Emmy, the Guineas candidate, is in rare buckle. She will be here next week so the local tuilites will have a chance of seeing her spread before the eventful day. Some people are never content unless they are croaking against the turf and its surroundings. A recent letter in a lI.IJ. paper was like all the other " whines." All the blackguardisms of all the larrikins of the city were set down to the training stables and their employees. I should recommend the individual who indited the last bit or idiocy to take a trip to Hastings and do the key-hole business on some of our model establishments. The regime of some of our stables cannot be surpassed in the world ; and in justice to Messrs Martin, Edwardes, Waddell, and others I think the public should be acquainted with' the fact tint no stricter or better-kept- stables are to be found in the universe. Owners and trainers are reminded tlint the Napier Park "generals" close on Tuesday next. I see that the bookmakers were allowed in the enclosure at the D.J.C. meeting. All the law in existence in the Empire at present is in favor of legal betting, and the '• book " if he only knew it and had the courage to go to law every time over the question would be as free a man on the racecourse as anywhere. The recentbetting prosecution failures are beginning to establish this fact. My '-par" concerning the retirement of Mr Douglas from the turf has been copied by papers all over New Zealand, but the usual courtesy of acknowledgment was not in every instance extended to the Standard. Thame, out of Carbine's relation Lady Mersey, has foaled a filly to Dreadnought Karamu. George Wright is supposed to leave Auckland about Tuesday next for Hastings. From private correspondence from Home I hear that Newhaven, the Australian tlyer, is not taking kindly to the English climate, and that his fate may after all be that of Paris 111. The proposed straight mile invitation race at Lingfield Park should be worth going Home to see should those genuine wonders, Persimmon and Galtee More, be brought together at w.f.a.

TRAINING NOTES. Only the early birds caught a glimpse of the first workers this morning, and at the gray dawn the sound of rumbling hoof strokes could be heard. Quinlivan's pair, Straybird and Stockvilie were the first to arouse the skylarks from their nests. The pair galloped a fast seven furlongs and finished well together. The Australian horse is looking very well and may capture a race before long. St Conou and Dotterel galloped six furlongs, the colt having all the best of a good spin. Missfire and Coeur de Lion galloped a mile and a quarter, the Dreadnought colt fairly romping away from the son of Maxim. New Forest, Heavenly Twin. Hapuku, Petroline, and Bremian galloped a mile in good style, finishing in the order nauied. Royal George. Claudia, Tigress, Grand Cross, and Nevermore galloped four furlongs on the course proper, the daughter of Medallion having slightly the best of it. Douglas, with a companion, did a good working gallop. Golden Plover galloped twice round at three-quarter pace. Rainbow, Pistol Grip, Puketoi and a Waterfall filly went once round at top, finishing well together. Tirant IJ'Eau, went a mile at too in fine style. 'Tire. Primula, and Wakelyn went a mile and a-half at top. Tire and Primula finished together. Alionora, looking really well, galloped seven furlongs. This filly will go near scoring at the meeting. Searchlight galloped six furlongs in good style. "Aphony, Rhino, and Flaneur put in sound workFirst Blood galloped a fast mile. Prince Charlie and Martyrdom were sent over the small sticks, The mare fell at the back of the course. Prince Charlie jumped really well.
