A gathering numbering 100,000 persons welcomed Sir Wilfred Laurier at Montreal, and 15 illuminated steamers escorted the Government schooner with the Premier aboard up the river, the city being splendidly illuminated. Syjinky, August 81. Mr Reid was accorded a public reception in the Town Hall to-night, preceded by a torchlight procession from tlie Red fern station. The route was crowded and great cheering was given. The Mayor presided at a crowded gathering of leading citizens and Federal delegates, who made much enthusiastic and congratulatory oratory. The Premier, on behalf of the reception committee, was presented with a portrait of himself in oils.
