A great extention of the lock-out is expected immediately. August 12. It is reported from the Niger Coast that the King of Benin, who has been hiding in the bush since his defeat by a military force under Sir George Goldie, has surrendered to the British authorities. Prince Henry of Orleans, who recently returned from a journey in Abyssinia, states that King Menelik claims an immense territory between Lake Rudolf and Lake Albert Nyauza as his equatorial province in Etheopia, and has entrusted the administration and development of the territory to Count Doutifi", a Russian officer, who will be assisted by French officials. The Daily Chronicle announces that General Sir Evelyn Wood, QuarterMaster General, is to succeed General Sir Redversßuller as Adjutant-General, and that General Wood will be succeeded by General Sir George White, Commander-in-Chief in India. Calcutta, August 11. A mollah is iuciting the tribesmen to rebellion in the Abukhtl valley, and a number of bridges have already been destroyed by them. Typhoid is prevalent in Crete, and many British soldiers are suffering from the disease. St. Petersburg, August 12.
