Thousands are dying. Deaths are so numerous that the bodies are thrown into pits in layers of twenty in a row. Chinese pirates looted the British steamer Reger and killed Captain Ross and several others. The chief ofiicer and fourteen of the crew are in the hospital suffering from wounds. The pirates secured eighteen thousand dollars and a large quantity of valuable property.
