A COMPLIMENTARY BANQUET. f Per Press Association. —Copyright. / London, July {3O. The New South Wales residents in London entertained the colony's troops at a banquet. The Hon. St. John Brodrick, Parliamentary Secretary to the "War Office, presided. He mentioned that Mr Chamberlain would shortly announce a scheme for the interchange of forces, a colonial detachment being sent to England and regular troops replacing them in the colonies. Lord Jersey eulogised the manly bearing and honorable conduct of the men. Colonel Hutton, formerly commandant of Ne*v South Wales, who was accorded an enthusiastic reception, said the army had much to learn from the colonials in their profession. He expressed the opinion that it would be impossible to find a finer body of men than the colonial troops. He said each colony had endeavored to make its forces complete, place the military union of Australia on a co-operative system of defence, and the colonies had set the Empire an example. Major Lasetter, who is in command of the New South Wales contingent, said the colony was prepared to help to defend any corner of the world.
