A HASTINGS RIFLEMAN TAKES A GOLD MEDAL. [Per Pns* .) Wellington, July 15. The prize raedals granted by the Government for competition by members of the volunteer force for the year ending '2Bth February have been won by the men named below. Gold medal for best shot each island: — North Island: Sergeant Frank Humphreys, Hastings Riiles, 99 ; South Island: Private Johnston W. C'hing, Stoke Rifles, 104. Gold and silver medal for second best shot in each island: —North Island: C.P.O. James Scott, Wanganui Naval Artillery, 97 ; South Island: Sergeant John L. Cbing, Stoke Rifles, 103. Silver medal for best shot in each district :--Sergeant John A. Hatswell, A. Battery, New Zealand Artillery (Auckland) 97 : Private Arthur Parker, Manchester Rifles '» Private Wilfred H. Ching, Stoke Rifles (Nelsoni 95: Corporal Stephen Lister E. Battery (Canterbury) 89 ; Private Patrick Curran, North Otago Mounted Rifles S2 ; Color-Sergeant George Kennard. Dunedin City Guards 81 : Private George Wood, Riversdale Rifles (Southland) 83.
