Stranding of the Wainui.
[By Telegraph.] (Per Press Aw'i>tlt»n.) Wellington. July 15. The Taupo and Duco have returned from the Waimii. It appears that fire broke out among the cargo of the Waimii owing to water getting at some sacks of lime stowed on the top of the coal and under the general cargo, and the latter had to be removed before the lime could be hoisted overboard. Very little damage was done, however. The Waimii is afloat aft. but the bow is fully 10ft upon the dry beach at low water, and there will be little or no difficulty in effecting temporary repairs. The Union Company has received a message that the Wainui is higher up the beach and work is well forward. A heavy gale is blowing but it does not effect the steamer, which is expected to reach Wellington to-mor-row or Sunday. The Kawatiri leaves here this afternoon to take off the Wainui's remaining coal (130 tons) and will stand by till she floats.
