The quarrel among of the share holders of the New Zealand Times Co. over the proposed issue of preference shares has been settled by a member of the syndicate undertaking to secure up to 15s per share for all small shareholders. Upon this understanding opposition was withdrawn, and the resolutions respecting the preference shares were confirmed. At the Poultry Show supper several of the visitors said that both in the management and the quality of the exhibits the recent show was the be'st seen in Wellington. The New Zealand Times says it hears that in view of the drought the Land and Mortgage Co. has determined to write off a large sum to provide for depreciation in properties. Negotiations are on foot and proceeding satisfactorily for the purchase under the Land Settlement Act of the Flaxbourne and Scarborough runs in Marlborough, altogether about 100,000 acres. Reefton, This Day. The Jubilee Committee have a balance of £46, which will be devoted to the formation of a recreation ground. Mr Ben Tillett had a good reception last night when be spoke at the Princess Theatre. Mr P. J. O'Regan occupied the chair. Mr Tillett strongly denounced leasing in perpetuity without revaluation and said the building of railroads was an evil unless the unearned increment was secured for the whole people. An address was read from the Miner's Union. Mr Tillett left for Christchurch this morning. He is in a weak state of health. Cheistchuhch, This day. This morning's Press says the shipping companies draw attention to the fact that while under their contract they are carrying meat from the South Island of New Zealand at fd per lb there is a great demand in Australia for insulated space, and upwards of fd per lb for mutton and fd for beef are freely offered. The shipping companies have refused an offer to charter their steamers at these rates to load in Australia. Ixvercargill, This day. A month's crushing from the Morning Star mine yielded 5;330zs from 324 tons of stone, valued at £2,190. The amount of gold won from the mine totals £24,254.
