The Post Office holidays in connection with the Jubilee celebration are notified elsewhere. The Hastings Rifles paraded for inspection last evening. Sergeant-Major Dewar, the new drill instructor, was in attendance, and put the men through various movements. Messrs Nelson Bros, have received the following wire from their London office : —" To-day's quotations—Best Canterbury mutton B£d ; Dunedin, 3£d ; Napier and North Island, 3d."

Mr " Davy" Gage, the well-known footballer, is at present in Hastings. G. H. Vickers and Co sell at their rooms to-morrow produce, furniture, clothing, Tahiti oranges, etc. For obstructing a railway guard the Palmerston Magistrate on Tuesday last fined a Woodville man 40s and costs. The " Magpies " are rapidly making themselves proficient for their entertainment on Thursday next. Last night's rehearsal was particularly successful. A carpenter named John Aeknry was, at Broken Hill, sentenced to three months for unlawfully assaulting a girl named Harris. The assault consisted in Aekary kissing the girl. Captain Russell has kindly promised to support the proposal of a public recreation ground for Hastings. The meeting advertised for Monday evening promises to be successful in every particular. Many promint citizens are interesting themselves in the movement. We acknowledge receipt from Mr A. A. In presenting a trophy to the energetic hon. secretary the committee only ex pressed their appreciation of the excellent services rendered by Mr George.
