Accidents and Fatalities.
[By Telegraph.] (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, May 20. At an inquest on a Chinaman named Li Chung, who died in the house in which he lived in Stafford street, the jury returned a verdict of "Death from natural causes, accelerated by neglect." Dr Mac Donald, who had been in the house, called attention to its filthy condition, which he said was a menace to public health. Reefton, May 25. News was received this afternoon that two men, named Farrilly and Sharkey, while engaged on the road to the Victoria range, were injured by a dynamite explosion. No particulars are to hand, but it is reported that the injuries are serious. This day. The accident on Victoria Range road was less serious than reported. The men were engaged in removing a charge of gelignite which had missed fire, when it exploded. Farrilly'a hand is rather seriously injured, and he has been removed to the hospital. Sharkey sustained contusions, but it is not necessary to remove him to the institution. Auckland, This day. A boy named Basley, sou of G. W. Basley, solicitor, met with a shocking accident this morning. He was riding under a bridge over which the train was passing when the horse shied and the boy's foot was caught in the stirrup and he was dragged about a hundred yards. The horse kicked him twice on the head before getting free. When picked up Basley was quite unconscious. He is not expected to live. Gisborne, This day. MacLaughlin, an able seaman of the s.s. Dingadee, was killed at 8.80 last night as the steamer was preparing to leave for Napier. MacLaughlin was on the forecastle head assisting to cat the anchor when the falls gave way and knocked him down, his head falling on the iron chocks. He died almost immediately. The body was brought ashore and an inquest will be held to-day.
