A PECULIAR PHENOMENA.

DRY CREEKS BELCH FORTH WATER. A POSER FOR SCIENTISTS. (Per Prexx Association. — C"iu,i iyfit.) Sydney, This day. A peculiar phenomenon has been experienced in the Bathurst and Orange districts. For fully a month past there has been no rain, and the creeks and springs that were dry have now commenced to flow, some of the springs spouting several feet high. Water, whica was previously exceedingly scarce, is now abundant. Scientists are puzzled.

Professor David attributes it to the drought killing all vegetation and the moisture which they absorbed when growing augmented the under-ground water supply. He instances several similar occurrences in Australia during severe droughts. Mr Wragge inclines to the opinion that it is traceable to the recent earthquakes.
