Large entries have been received for tlie Otaki Maori meeting to be held on the 24th and 25thinst, the numbers ranging from 15 to 84 for the different events. The local horses, Daphne and Petroline, are among the number. Greenstone returned his backers £2 7s in the Hack Race at Waipukurau yesterday. After winning the Hurdles Gorse disposed of a field of eight in the Bmcelet. Div., £3 19s. Drury Lane seculfrd his double by winning the Flying, aiid f £aying £1 19s. Progress paid the div. of the meeting (£2O 10s) in the Final. Daphne ran three seconds and Petroline and Flirt two each. Mr Blake's game little mare ran well, but the heavy going told its tale on her. Guardfish won the Hack race at Hawera yesterday, and Arquebus defeated Marino and Australina for places in the Stewards'. Div., £3 7s and £1 7s. Barshot injured one his knees while racing in the Wellington Suburban Handicap and is not likely to race again this this season. Mr E. Gilpin made a great success of the starting at the Waipukurau yesterday, pleasing owners, the public and all concerned. He promises to become another Harry Piper, and all wish him success at the game. A case that is of considerable interest to horse owners, trainers etc, was decided at the Greymouth S.M. Court on Friday last. J. Scott sued P. O'Neill for £64 for training the latter's horses. This was equivalent to <£'2 a week for each horse trained by plaintifl. Defendant only admitted a liability of .£32, or £1 per week for each horse trained, less certain moneys advanced to Scott for which no credit was given on the bill of particulars. £ll Is 2d was paid into the court with costs £1 12s, After hearing a deal of evidence of a somewnat contradictary character the bench gave judgment for plaintiff for £4l 2s 5d less the amount paid into court with costs £5 15s.
