EUROPEAN AND FOREIGN. (P<jr Press Awjciation.— London*. April 2. Lord Loch, formerly chief Commissioner at the Cape, had a narrow escape from an accident while riding in a hansom in the City. The horse bolted and dashed towards the Whitehall Club. Lord Loch leaped out only a moment before the cab was completely smashed. April 3. To-day's wool sales were brisk, and wasty crossbreds sold well. The " Richmond "New Zealand clip brought 7fid. In the House of Commons Sir C. Dilke urged that Great Britain should convene a conference with the object of enforcing the better treatment of natives in Africa. In reply, the Hon. G. N. Curzon said Great Britain was parleying with the Powers with a view to holding a conference. He denied that the Niger Company was exercising an illegal monopoly. April 1.
